In 1997, the H-3 freeway opened and provided easy access to Kaneohe. This allowed residents to quickly commute over to Aiea, Pearl Harbor, and the Honolulu Airport. This appealed to many and drove sales up during the years that followed the opening of the H-3 freeway.
One of the best features of Kaneohe is Kaneohe Bay. Kaneohe is not known as a surfing spot, but if you’ve got a boat or watercraft of some sort, you will thoroughly enjoy Kaneohe Bay and the only gathering sandbar in Hawaii. The Kaneohe Sandbar is a popular spot among local residents. During low tide, the sandbar emerges and forms a shallow and temporary land. During high tide, the water is about hip-deep in most spots. The size of the sandbar varies depending on the tide. People come here to picnic, swim, and relax and hang out.
If you are a golfer, there are many golf courses to visit right in Kaneohe. They include Bayview Course, Koolau Golf Club, Pali Golf Course, Klipper Marine Golf Course.
